Taunton School Committee Approves $3 Million in Bills, Honors Softball Champions

TAUNTON -- June 17, 2026, Taunton School Committee closes fiscal year 2026 with $3 million in approvals and early college milestone. The committee unanimously approved a bills payable warrant of $2,998,929.72 at its June 17 meeting, including a three-year, $749,513 purchase of the Wonders reading curriculum for grades K through 6 and more than $500,000 in Chromebook-related technology payments. Superintendent John Cabral announced that Taunton Public Schools has earned early college designation with UMass Dartmouth, adding pre-medical and pre-nursing pathways to an already-growing program; Cabral noted that roughly one in eight of the district's high school students currently participates in early college, with a goal of reaching one in four. The Finance and Law Subcommittee approved $12,277.50 in April special education legal expenses, bringing the district's annual legal costs for student matters to $89,193.34, substantially over budget. Cabral also recognized junior Bella Bork as the 2026 Gatorade Massachusetts Softball Player of the Year, and the Lady Tigers' sixth consecutive Division I state championship, an 11-8 win over Attleboro that he called the highest-scoring Division I softball title game in MIAA history.
