Taunton School Committee Approves $1.84 Million in Warrants, Honors Six-Time Softball Champions

TAUNTON — July 8, 2026 — Taunton School Committee approves $1.84 million in warrants and honors sixth straight softball state title. The committee meeting on July 8 ratified a fiscal year 2026 warrant of $1,770,483.40 — after holding a $2,000 payment to the Bristol Community College Foundation for Holocaust teacher training pending clarification — and a fiscal year 2027 warrant of $66,260.47, while hearing from Superintendent Chris Cabral that contracted special education legal services from Legal Lions Law Group, LLC totaled $108,455.42 against a $50,000 budget. The committee voted unanimously to authorize Cabral to cover all expenses for a championship celebration for the Taunton High School softball team, which finished 24-1 for its sixth consecutive Division I state title under Head Coach Michelle Rapozo, who is 98-2 in her first 100 games. Two residents, Barbara Cunningham and Allison Rosa, used public comment to raise concerns about unresolved bullying at Parker Middle School and the committee's responsiveness to constituents. Cabral also announced the appointment of Lisa White, a 33-year public education veteran, as the new principal of the James L. Mulcahy Elementary School beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.
