School Committee Approves $691,840 in Bills Payable

Taunton resident opposes church's bid to convert a former school building into a care center. Gregory C. DeMello told the School Committee the Carol A.

Daugherty Professional Learning Center at 66 Summer Street should stay reserved for educational use, warning that converting it for Christ Community Church's proposed community care center would mean it is "often lost to the district permanently." No vote was taken on the proposal. Separately, the committee's Finance and Law Subcommittee, chaired by Dr. DeMello, approved $415,089.54 in fiscal 2026 and $276,750.10 in fiscal 2027 bills payable, including $352,623.84 for 700 fifth-grade Chromebooks, plus disposal of up to 510 surplus textbooks per school.

The full committee ratified the subcommittee's recommendations 7-0, with member Mr. Laura absent.
