SouthCoast foundation opens 2027 scholarship applications
The SouthCoast Community Foundation is accepting applications for more than 65 scholarships totaling over $900,000 for students in Taunton and 40 other communities, with a Jan. 11, 2027 deadline.
The SouthCoast Community Foundation announced Nov. 2 that it is accepting applications for its 2027 scholarship program, offering more than 65 scholarships totaling over $900,000 to students across southeastern Massachusetts, including Taunton. Applications are open through Jan. 11, 2027.
The foundation said it awarded more than $900,000 in scholarships to over 120 students in 2026. The program focuses on expanding access to higher education, with particular attention to first- and second-generation college students and students already enrolled in college. Since its founding in 1995, the foundation has distributed over $68 million in grants and $6.2 million in scholarships.
Scholarships support two- and four-year degrees, vocational and technical education, certificate programs and workforce training. Graduating high school seniors, technical certificate or trade school students, and current college students are encouraged to apply. Eligibility varies by scholarship.
The foundation serves 41 cities and towns in southeastern Massachusetts. Students and families can find the full list of scholarships and eligibility details and application instructions and resources. Most scholarships use the foundation's Universal Application, which the foundation said has been refined this year to tailor questions to different types of applicants.
The foundation will host three optional virtual drop-in question and answer sessions: Nov. 17 from 4 to 5 p.m., Dec. 17 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., and Jan. 5 from 4 to 5 p.m. Registration links are on the scholarship webpage. Questions can also be sent to scholarships@southcoastcf.org.
Residents interested in supporting the program can donate to the Partners in Education Fund online or by mail. Those interested in creating their own scholarship fund can contact Chief Advancement Officer Jess Haas at jhaas@southcoastcf.org.
